Rick and his band are full of energy and will definitely invigorate any event you have them play at! We hired them for our wedding, and they were completely obliging about what to play. We requested "that song from Car Talk" for our processional, and they were so on top of it! We got so many positive comments from our guests about how much they enlivened the atmosphere, and they are great for setting a lively, "ready to party" mood. They're also good at replying to emails, and being communicative throughout the whole process. We 100% recommend them! I was one of the many neighbors who so enjoyed your performance and that of the 4 musicians that accompanied you when you played a terrific variety of bluegrass music at our neighborhood block party on Saturday evening, June 22, 2013 in Newton. The five piece group included a fiddler, mandolin player, banjo player, bass player and guitar player. All took turns with vocals and each performed excellent solos during many of the songs you played. The selection of songs played, the wonderful quality of the music you all made and the extraordinary spirit you all showed made the evening lots of fun. You folks seemed to be enjoying the evening almost as much as we in the neighborhood did. The acoustics too were great for your amplification system made it very easy to hear and understand the lyrics of each song you played. During the intermission I think many of us were so impressed that a group that just finished their first year at Berklee and just began playing together could put on such a professional and enjoyable show. Scott and I just wanted to take a minute and let you know how much we enjoyed and appreciated your and your group's performance at our wedding! Guest after guest has commented on how much they enjoyed your music. Clearly you guys had rehearsed our personal selections. Everything you played was spot on and beautiful. Also, thanks for convincing us to use the vocalist...really extraordinary! The entire weekend, and especially the day itself, for us was magical and you played a very big role in that. In fact, one of the only things I would have changed about the day was to have heard more of your music. Thanks again and I hope our paths cross again very soon! We had a Garfield Blackberry jam at one point that was officially one of my favorite jam moments ever. Joy Adams of Avocado Estate Twisted Pine has played at our neighborhood party two year's running, and they are awesome! They are fantastic instrumentalists, sing beautifully, and most of all, they're a lot of fun. I'm not even a huge bluegrass fan! They really seem to be enjoying their playing, which adds to the atmosphere. If you are looking for a great quintet for a special occasion of virtually any type, look no further.

We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful performance of our Memorial Day wedding celebration. Each and everyone of you far exceeded our expectations. It is funny how life works out. Simply by bad luck did we stumble across each other when Goodtime backed out. Thank you Laura for ultimately contacting us. To by honest we did not know exactly what to expect. You battled out the rain and the cold and executed each song perfectly. You even played our entire play list, which was greatly appreciated. We loved the style in which Ophelia was played. The tempo was slowed down, which was nice to dance to, and the singling was beautiful. Not only was the music great but the personalities and atmosphere was as equal. You made our wedding celebration a truly special day, we could not have done it with out you. Show- Ricky and his band showed up with no notice and crushed the gig. They had a deep set list and played super tight. The cops who showed up for the noise disturbance call (clearly a misunderstanding) were even impressed. This is a great bluegrass band that can play just about anything.
Lesson: Ricky - the doctor said that banjo lesson didn't cause permanent damage. I'm still processing some of the lessons covered. Incredible scope, articulate presentation, and lots of info covered. Game changer for me. Thanks again! Trey Overdyke |

Ricky sets ambitions goals for himself and works hard to achieve them. He is an exceptionally hard worker and during the time he studied at Berklee he made impressive progress with his technique and in learning fundamental elements of bluegrass banjo. Since then I have had the opportunity to hear him play on a number of occasions and each time I have observed noticeable improvements in his banjo playing and overall musicianship. I attribute this to his high level of motivation and determination coupled with well-defined goals and an intense daily practice routine that he makes his highest priority.
Anybody who meets Ricky cannot help but instantly recognize his irrepressible level of enthusiasm and energy. He is eager to learn and fearless about placing himself into challenging situations. Dave Hollender 12/1/2013 |
